Hi there, I'm Kait!
Recently finished my student teaching in Detroit Public Schools. I will be teaching fourth grade at a PBL school in the fall!

Student teaching question

Seeing some recent posts on my dash, I am curious to know:

1. How long is/was your entire student teaching experience?

2. How many weeks is/was your lead teaching or full take-over (aka planning and executing all lessons in place of your mentor teacher)?

My university’s requriements are notoriously intense and student teaching is a required fifth year post-graduation certification program. I have been with the same class since school started in September and I am currently in my 10 week lead teaching window, where I plan and teach everything for the entire day. Last semester, I was responsible for two lead weeks of math and language arts around October and took over planning and teaching one subject of my choice (social studies) after that ended. In addition, I was often asked to jump in and teach my mentors’ plans in other subjects throughout that first semester, even in the very first days.

EDIT: Others have mentioned it, and I neglected to include that I am also taking two graduate courses per semester.

I realize how much it can vary between elementary and secondary, and even more so between different colleges, so what is/was your commitment level like?
